#8 Undoing the To Do Tangle
In update #5 Action First Inbox, we asked you if you were in a 'to do tangle'. Quite a few of you are so we've been pressing ahead with plans to deliver Plum Mail's Action First Inbox.
These features are very much inline with the message we presented to you ~3 months ago when we first launched Plum Mail. We want to add to Plum Mail's existing features that you signed up for and continue to supercharge communication.
If you do spend half your life in email, action first inbox features really will 'make it your best half.'
So, here's a preview of Plum Mail's refreshed message and features of the action-first inbox:
Plum Mail is an action-first inbox that makes your email more productive.
We do this:
- by exposing the tasks that are hidden in your emails; and,
- by enabling you to take actions such as event scheduling right inside the message body.
This is a very early-release screenshot of the action first inbox:
Composing the Composer
To deliver this host of new features, we need to upgrade the way you write your messages. At the moment we have a markdown editor which enables you to do simple formatting fast. On top of that we added automatic detection of questions and now we are adding yet more interactivity into the body of the message.
This has been a huge technical challenge and we've been hard coding for several weeks now to develop a completely custom message composer. The new composer is capable of adding all kinds of interactivity into the body of the message and it processes markdown live rather than having to press 'preview'.
Here's a screenshot showing a highlighted question, markdown formatting and our custom link previewer which is pulling in meta-data from any link you care to share:
If you copy and paste text from a previous message, Plum Mail links back to that message automatically. Automated question recognition has also levelled up as you can see in this screenshot:
As you can see all of this is a work in progress but we are confident we will be able to share early-release with you by the end of the year.
A number of you on this waiting list have already expressed interest and excitement about trying out these new features and if you'd like to be on the Alpha list, please let us know.
Onboarding
Thank you so much to everyone for sticking around. We are acutely aware you probably haven't received an invite to start using Plum Mail yet although a large number of you have.
We have decided to pause onboarding for a short time so that the next people we onboard to Plum Mail will go straight into the new action first concept. Anyone already onboarded will also have access.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.
Cheers, Peter & Richard
p.s. If you have a friend who you think would be interested in our journey, please do forward this email to them! Thank you. :-)
